Vanish (Firelight #2)

Vanish (Firelight #2) by Sophie Jordan

Rating: 4.5 stars

Ahh~ This was so good! I liked this second book even better than the first: Firelight!Vanish contained an impossibly entertaining/capturing plot and creative development of the characters from the previous book. I found myself immediately sucked into the story world.

Vanish picked immediately from where Firelight left off. It continued the story from how Cassian was bringing Jacinda and Tamra, as well as their mother home back to the pride. Immediately from the beginning, an unexpected twist was dropped upon the character Tamra. I really liked this twist and the change in status between Jacinda and Tamra afterwards.

The writing of this book did not disappoint, it still gave me the satisfaction of enjoying good writing as well as a great story. I also really liked Cassian and Tamra in this book, contrary to many of my friends who have read this series. I have always liked Cassian as a character, but what he tries to do in this book made me like him even more. He was very patient and hopeful. Even though Jacinda would never like him back, he still loved her and was nice to her. He was a character I really understood and felt sorry for. If I was Cassian in some of the situations the book described, I would be so furious and hateful, let alone being remotely nice. I admire his forgiving nature and patience. Tamra was quite a mysterious character to me, and again I understood her point-of-view and the reason for her actions. She and Jacinda's sister-relationship endured many ups and downs, yet they were always loving towards each other deep in their hearts. I really liked the ending and the funny snips of conversation between Tamra, Cassian, Will and Jacinda. To me, Tamra really was just a girl who was hurt and had been kept in the dark for too long before she finally starts to realise and stand up as herself. I liked her for realising what she needed to do and how she really should act (including how her relationship with Jacinda).
Really, there isn't much else to say. Anyone who has read the first book, READ THIS NOW!! If you haven't, this is a worthy series to read :)

Synopsis from Goodreads

An impossible romance.
Bitter rivalries.
Deadly choices.

To save the life of the boy she loves, Jacinda did the unthinkable: She betrayed the most closely-guarded secret of her kind. Now she must return to the protection of her pride knowing she might never see Will again—and worse, that because his mind has been shaded, Will’s memories of that fateful night and why she had to flee are gone.

Back home, Jacinda is greeted with hostility and must work to prove her loyalty for both her sake and her family’s. Among the few who will even talk to her are Cassian, the pride’s heir apparent who has always wanted her, and her sister, Tamra, who has been forever changed by a twist of fate. Jacinda knows that she should forget Will and move on—that if he managed to remember and keep his promise to find her, it would only endanger them both. Yet she clings to the hope that someday they will be together again. When the chance arrives to follow her heart, will she risk everything for love?
